We’ve just about reached the Thanksgiving holiday.
And when you live in a 55+ community like Four Seasons at Rapho , you don’t have to do any fall maintenance of your yard, as that is all taken care of for you.
And , the homes here in our community have plenty of room to host family and /or friends for a Thanksgiving get together. You can cook a huge meal for the holiday, and with three food markets less that a mile away, all the goodies are readily available with minimal driving.
So relax, cook, and eat in the coming week, because Christmas is just around the corner, and with our children, grand children, and even great grandchildren, we all know what that means!

It is now October and fall is officially here. Since we don’t have to rake leaves or trim our bushes, as that is taken care of for us( another good reason to live in a 55+ community where these chores are done for you), how about a visit to a local apple orchard to pick your own apples. Orchards are less than an hour ride away. Another idea is to visit one of the corn mazes in Lancaster County and see how good your sense of direction is. Don’t worry…there are monitors to guide you through if you get disoriented. Best of all, on the first two weekends in October there is the annual apple festival in Biglersville, Pa. It is only about an hour drive away near Gettysburg and has anything made from apples to taste and buy.

With Labor Day now in the rear view mirror, summer is almost officially over.
But with pools closed and golf leagues winding down, it’s time to think about some culture.
And when you live in a 55+ community like Four Seasons at Elm Tree, you are very close to three cities with many options for live theater, dance , and concerts .
In Harrisburg, just 30 minutes away from Mount Joy, there is Open Stage and Harrisburg Community Theater as well as the Harrisburg Symphony.
In York there is Belmont Theater for plays, and the Strand for multiple forms of live entertainment. The Lancaster area has the Fulton Theater for live shows and concerts, and the Ware Center of Millersville University next door to it for many live concerts.
A short drive from Lancaster are the Winter Center on the grounds of Millersville University and Ephrata Playhouse for even more theater and concerts.
All of these venues have ticket prices that are a fraction of the cost than in Philadelphia, Washington, or New York.
So go out and get some culture and see a local play, concert or recital.

We’re in the dog days of summer, and living in the 55+ community, Four Seasons at Elm Tree, you have all sorts of leisure time.
But you can’t spend all day at the pool or spa, so how about some serious shopping.
Being centrally located in the Pennsylvania town of Mount Joy, we are very close to prime shopping locations in Lancaster, Harrisburg and York.
We’re a 15 minute drive from Park City mall in Lancaster, which is the largest mall in south central PA. Not 5 minutes from there are stores in Red Rose Commons strip mall, and in the Wal-Mart plaza. There are two new centers being built in Lancaster across from Red Rose Commons and across from Long’s park, which should be open by early next year.
If you are an outdoorsman, Bass Pro shops is 25 minutes away adjacent to Harrisburg East mall in Harrisburg, and you are only 20 minutes away from York Galleria in York.
So at Four Seasons, you have the advantage of Leisurely 55+ living in a small town atmosphere, but you are only a short drive(or walk) to many commercial areas in the 3 cities close by.

July 4th has come and gone which in Lancaster county means corn season is approaching. The stalks in the area are growing in leaps and bounds and when you live in a 55+ community like Four Seasons at Elm Tree, you have plenty of time to visit either the many farmers stands locally to choose between yellow, white or bi color corn ( a mix of both on the same cob) or just go into town to any of the three local supermarkets, all a couple of minutes drive away, to look at the selections in their produce department.
And when you don’t have to worry about mowing, bush trimming, or other outside yard work, you’ll have plenty of time to make corn fritters, cornbread, or just cook up a few ears and enjoy. So hop in your car and go grab some corn. It is what we in Lancaster County are known for ( besidesthe outlets and Amish, of course).

Now that it’s approaching summer, maybe it’s time to watch some baseball. I’m not talking on tv but live professional baseball of all calibers.
When you’re living our 55+ community, Four Seasons At Elm Tree, and your lawn care is done for you, why don’t you use some of your leisure time to take in a game.
Major league teams in Philadelphia and Baltimore are only about 90 minutes away. And minor league teams are located in Lancaster, Harrisburg, and York are only about 30-40 minutes away. This brand of baseball is still excellent to watch and all three teams have relatively new major league-like stadiums. And, you can’t beat the price.
Four Seasons is conveniently located in Mount Joy, so among all the other things to do 90 minutes or less away, why not try a professional baseball game this summer.

Now that spring is in full bloom, what can we do outside? If we want to exercise outdoors, well when you live in a community where the lawn care is done for you, that eliminates one form of outdoor exercise. So how about a leisurely bike ride.
I don’t mean 30 miles or more, because if you’re like me, if I’m riding 30 miles on a bike, the bike better say “Harley Davidson” on the gas tank.
But you can take a leisurely ride of just a couple of mile at the Rapho park adjacent to our Four Seasons Community. Or. If you have a bike rack for your car, haul your bike about a 10 minute ride to tails west of Elizabethtown or beside the Spooky Nook Complex.
It’s great exercise, plus you get some sun too.

With spring officially here, what better way to spend time outdoors, but hiking or biking on the many trails close to our community. After all, with mowing and other outdoor chores done for you, there is time on your hands to get in outdoor recreation.
There are hiking or biking trails behind the Spooky Nook complex, which is only about 10 minutes or less away. Or there is a trail in Elizabethtown for both. Go to Chickies Rock outside Marietta, a 15 minute drive, for a very scenic route.
And, if you don’t want to get in your car, just hike or bike on our own trail or in the Rapho park adjacent to our community.

We’re now in the dead of winter (the groundhog saw his shadow last week) so what can we do? In our 55+ community we have plenty of indoor activities such as a bowling league, card playing, billiards, needling, etc, but why not take a break and head out from Four Seasons and take a tour. You can go to York, about a half hour away, and tour the Harley-Davidson factory or if you have a sweet tooth, Wolfgang candies. If you like snacks and would like to see how pretzels and potato chips are made, head to Hanover (about an hour’s drive) and take a tour at Utz or Snyders plants. Or go an hour east to the Herr’s factory in Nottingham. Another interesting tour is about 2 hours away in Nazareth where you can tour the Martin guitar factory. So if you like to see how things are made, these are some options that can be done in a day from Mount Joy.
