“Try to Remember…
Posted on Sep 1st, 2020

“…the kind of September when life was slow and oh, so mellow.”* Is it still? Almost 20 years ago, Canadian demographer David Foot wrote “Boom, Bust and Echo”, in which he claimed that “demographics explains two-thirds of everything—whether business planning, marketing, human resources, careers, corporate organization, housing, the stock market, education, health, recreation, leisure and social and global trends”.
One of his lessons is to follow the Baby Boomers, those of us now from 58 to 72. Thought: Plan what 70 million 85-year-olds will need! Safety for various sources of transit, proximity to medical help and shopping, available cost-effective technology for communication…these can be examined and prioritized well.
One planner stated that we don’t need aging in place as much as we need places to age. Those of us here, whether for 15 years or 15 days, have made such a decision carefully, discovering which needs are met well and how to satisfy others. The rapport of those volunteering among us, readily assisting anyone with a question or concern, is remarkable, necessary and humbling. We are not alone.
One house remains for sale in Four Seasons of Elm Tree, Mount Joy, PA! We are welcoming several new people, happily, and introducing them to neighbors, activities, the clubhouse amenities, and all they can expect from the good life here in our over-55 community!
Despite this Covid-19 and serious concern about unknowns,  we are entering the next season of our lives here with patience, common sense and deliberate activity to remain safe and helpful. Yogi Berra was right when he said “It’s tough to make predictions, especially about the future.”
