Autumn/Fall
Posted on Oct 17th, 2018
‘Tis the only season with two correct names! It was changed from Harvest to Autumn, but the English termed it Fall in the 1500s. In Lancaster County, we know it’s Fall when pumpkins decorate our homes, replace fresh corn at the farmers’ markets, and flavor everything! No exception here at Four Seasons at Elm Tree, as the curb appeal shows in our over-55 community; mums, corn stalks and scarecrows await the crisp Autumn days.
Recipes for hot food will bring memorable aromas to our kitchens and be available for sampling at the Covered Dish Suppers and the parking lot Tailgate Afternoon. The local Food Bank was remembered well by our collection and delivery of a carload of donated food items for those in need near us. Another Bagel Bash, more Happy Hours and monthly Men’s and Women’s Luncheons continue to offer food discussions. No “…Eye of newt, and toe of frog, Wool of Bat, and tongue of dog,…”, in our seasonal choices however!
Variety also is evident in the talents displayed by many of our neighbors recently for an entertaining evening at the Great Room in our clubhouse. Exercise there replaces the pool’s water aerobics with the workout room open 24/7! But now, watch out there for your mother’s back; the new clubhouse sidewalk is tile-paved, leaving little room to avoid the cracks! What a challenge!
October 20 is “International Observe the Moon Night”, and the Hunter’s Moon rises October 24. Autumn shows a significant association between this season and cognition, which is supposed to be improved now. We are cognizant of the fact that we are happily settling in for warmer indoor fun and fare, here at Four Seasons at Elm Tree.
