In our over-55 community of Four Seasons at Elm Tree, we are prepared for the Groundhog Day predictions and are happy to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Pig! So, “Good Fortune to You!” may be our western translation of the title here, but the Cantonese go a bit farther by meaning “I Wish You More Money This Year!”
What a short month…so full of holiday events! Doubtless, some really good snow will fall allowing us to huddle together for so many activities here. Creating snowmen? It’s happened before!
The Fireplace Room at the clubhouse has such inviting warmth for nearly a dozen different card and board games regularly scheduled, or even impromptu! Puzzles with wine? We never know!
Happy Hour and a special brunch are on the calendar; the Valentine’s Party is another decorative gathering upcoming. Red will be worn often from the first of the month to the last, noting Women’s Heart and Health, Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day, and Presidents’ Weekend.
Having snow removal done for us, we can relax to read, preparing for the monthly Book Club discussion, or to fix the recipe in the current newsletter. Sunny days have many of us out walking in the brisk air while a few neighbors may be returning from warmer climes.
Four Seasons at Elm Tree does embrace the seasonal changes well. John Steinbeck wrote: “What good is the warmth of summer without the cold of winter to give it sweetness?”
