Earth Month

Whitened farm fields lingered near Four Seasons at Elm Tree as snow geese and Tundra swans replaced the melting snows there. Now, plowing prepares the soil well for planting time as we, in our over-55 community, do the same around our houses. Croci and snowdrops are evidence of warmer temperatures with lighter evenings to enjoy company at the clubhouse or upon rounding the bend while walking.
The newly registered Susquehanna Valley National Heritage Area includes us! We easily can find local hiking trails and creeks for fishing with grandchildren. In such an exurban neighborhood, we’ve learned how close are Lancaster city, Harrisburg, Hershey, Baltimore and even Philadelphia! Amtrak takes us right from Mount Joy at it’s soon-to-be-opened newer station in town.
However, we must schedule such trips between our own activities; the new residents’ evening, another yard sale, and a hoe-down are added to the calendar for April. We celebrate Earth Month through recycling well and learning better ways to work on our gardening. Landscaping, fertilizing, trimming and mowing are done for us, but it’s a joyful exercise to add individual taste to the outsides of our houses.
We try to have no FOMO (fear of missing out!) here, but rather we get involved and have fun any way we like. While we don’t have the 2,000 years-old Chinese elixir for immortality, discovered recently in China, we do have all the “extras” at Four Seasons at Elm Tree to help see us through.
