 Once again, we have another Caesar…Julius was July, now Augustus is…August. The name was given to the calendar ’s month in 8 B.C., and, amazingly, has lasted for centuries! Now, Leo the lion constellation shines among the summer stars along with the Sturgeon Moon. This is the month that annually leads us to the end of summer as we prefer it and into the later season with much more activity. 

 Typically, school starts for all ages with related duties and schedules. Here at Four Seasons at Elm Tree, most of us are retired, happy to make plans for off-season travel, enjoying friends’ visiting, and relaxing with the many activities provided for us in our clubhouse, and at our pool, albeit for just one more month! 

 Sunshine and rains have been coming often enough to have fresh produce at local stands and markets, and flowers in our beds. Corn and peaches are a delicious pleasure! Water aerobics and hot tub dips remain easy and fun to do. Another Meet the New Neighbors’ evening will come soon along with the monthly ladies’ and men’s luncheons. 

 Some places feel like home, even if we’ve never lived there. The ancient Romans called it genius loci, the spirit of the place. A new small town we visited, the memorable beach spot, even the excitement getting off the plane for a new trip’s destination! We seniors revel in such serendipitous times and always want more! Happy days for the new month of August!
