A shorter month is upon us, and maybe we need that at this point! Our Arctic freeze has had us staying in more, contacting friends by phone and emails, learning new ways to be warmer, and likely cooking good, hot meals! We have been blessed with prompt, careful snow removal, having our driveways and sidewalks shoveled, and email alerts to keep us well updated, safe and secure. 

     However, the month is full of holidays for celebrating and recalling  childhood memories. Red seems to be the dominant color thinking of Valentine’s Day, President George Washington’s birthday, Lunar New Year of the Horse, but not Mardi Gras which has its gold, purple and green for beads and cakes! You may apply whatever color you like to Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, but aligned with George’s, it would be red, white and blue! Poor Abe…no more pennies! 

     Four Seasons at Elm Tree in Mount Joy, PA will continue this month with many clubhouse activities, the luncheon outings, most committee meetings and a Board meeting, regular club gatherings, and the access we all have to our library’s books, puzzles, and the workout and billiards’ rooms with some new games. Our monthly newsletter keeps us well-informed. 

     The Snow Moon comes immediately on February first, just before the groundhog may see its shadow, IF it deigns to come up from its hole in this weather! Februa was the Roman festival of purification, thus being better prepared for spring. But, keep those shovels and boots handy!
