Close, but Apart
Posted on Apr 30th, 2020
The concept of a “loner”, as a negative stereotype, didn’t exist until the 1940s. In our over-55 community, Four Seasons at Elm Tree, we have been making efforts to assure that nobody feels alone during this 2020 crisis. It’s time for extroverts to learn the skills of introversion!
Some of us are working, even volunteering, from safe homes here; some are returning from family stays or from visits to warmer climates. We’ve learned who among us deserve a concerned check, now and then, if they are not doing well during this shutdown.
Social stimulation has occurred often via our media devices, as well as distanced chats from the streets and driveways. Even easy walks along the township park’s pathways above us have been correctly done, and the clubhouse has wipes and antiseptic to help anyone using the library or workout room. Of course, we receive our monthly newsletter to answer questions we have about activities and to offer updated information.
We are fortunate to live so near medical and grocery facilities, too. Online and portal chats are much more common now for our doctor appointments. Our Helping Hands list on the website includes so many neighbors volunteering to come to our aid for various needs if we just contact them.
Earth Month has been spent well, unwittingly, as we don’t drive nor consume as we used to do! Our attitudes have created our new realities; how we view this situation has a major impact on how we live now…and, maybe, now on.
We expect to welcome new residents gladly, whenever house sales resume well. But, these are not halcyon days; we must find awe where we are.
